Join Us for the Hacks/Hackers AI x Journalism Summit 2025 (May 7–8)

This May, journalists, technologists and innovators will spend two days exploring how AI can enhance journalism and information at the first-ever Hacks/Hackers AI x Journalism Summit in Baltimore. The summit is intended to help the media fundamentally rethink what a news product can be in the AI era.

Reporters, editors, product managers and technologists will spend two days gaining practical skills and insights to thrive in the new media landscape. The schedule includes hands-on workshops, real-world case studies and collaborative sessions, all aimed at showing participants how to use AI to strengthen reporting, streamline workflows, create more impactful stories and build innovative news products.

Using the ‘Roganbot’ to Tackle a Journalism Blind Spot

About 20% of Americans –  including a much higher share of adults under 30 (37%) – now get information from news influencers who create and share their content on a seemingly infinite number of podcasts, YouTube channels and social media accounts. To help track this world of creators, Verso's Kaveh Waddell and Patrick Swanson applied their AI expertise to build the Roganbot.

Using AI to analyze episodes of lengthy podcasts, the Roganbot is initially focused on the massively popular Joe Rogan Experience. “It’s not easy (for newsrooms) to keep up with content on these platforms. These are often hours-long, meandering conversations,” say Waddell and Swanson. Roganbot transforms these sprawling conversations into data.

Supported by Hacks/Hackers, WikiCredCon 2025’s theme is “Reliable Sources,” and will focus on themes including combating harassment and increasing attempts to dox editors, enhancing efforts and systems that protect against disinformation, and building and incorporating citation tools for Wikipedia’s global network of volunteer contributors. WikiCredCon 2025 will be hosted by the Internet Archive at their headquarters in San Francisco from February 14th to 16th, 2025.
