April conferences coming up
Happy April, hacks and hackers! There are two worldwide conferences happening this month - the International Symposium on Online Journalism (April 14-15) and the International Journalism Festival (April 19-23).

- Twitter was supposed to take away legacy verified checkmarks on April 1. Though they didn’t quite do that, they did remove the New York Times’ checkmark. The Verge recapped Twitter’s messy weekend here.
- American lawmakers are starting to consider ways to assist local news sites, so Politico took a look back at how the Founding Fathers helped subsidize costs for mailing newspapers during the country’s inception.
- The Sigma Awards honor the best data journalism projects from around the world over the past year, and they announced 10 winners out of 638 entries sent from 80 countries.
