Happy 100th, hacks and hackers! This newsletter has reached 100 issues, and we look forward to keeping everyone connected in the future.

HackPack, which shares not only a similar name but similar goals and interests, has undertaken a survey to determine the costs and balances of freelancing in journalism. If you haven’t already, check out their many international job postings and answer their survey.

  • Push alerts from news organizations are having to compete with more and more items on iPhone lockscreens, according to new research by the Tow Center and Guardian U.S. Mobile Innovation Lab (NiemanLab)
  • An extensive study just published by Google’s News Lab found that “profound emotional experiences” are one of the skills VR has over other mediums (GNL)
  • The Financial Times doubled its followers on Instagram over the past year, and has helped the financial stalwart attract a younger audience (Digiday)
