The 2024 election campaign demonstrates that media disruption is only just beginning. And, with deregulation of all kinds promised by the incoming Trump administration combined with the accelerating development of AI, there promises to be an explosion of new ways to deliver and consume information.

In an already crowded media landscape, what seems clear is that audiences aren't just looking for more content – people are seeking connections and context that matter in their own lives.

AI/Journalism Hackathon at UC Berkeley: Harnessing AI to Enhance Trust and Deepen Engagement in Local Communities

Artificial Intelligence (AI) will not replace humans in the newsroom, even as emerging technologies continue to rapidly evolve and grow more capable day by day. Instead, new tools will help journalists and others to unlock and share information, more easily scale new media projects and solutions, and become vastly more productive. This was one takeaway from a three-day hackathon hosted by Hacks/Hackers and UC Berkeley Journalism that brought journalists, documentary filmmakers, technologists and others together to explore how AI can help enhance trust and deepen engagement in local communities.
