New year, new groups
Hope your 2018 is getting off to a good start, hacks and hackers. Last year saw the addition of seven new groups to the Hacks/Hackers family: Casablanca, Yaounde, Abuja, Havana, Kuala Lumpur, Quito and South Wales x South West.
We want to see even more new groups next year. If you're interested in being an organizer, or know someone who is, let us know! We may even already have a co-organizer for you.

- Casablanca is discussing mobile journalism
- Washington, D.C., is experimenting with ProPublica's Congress API
Worth a read:
- A Pew survey of 38 countries indicates that dissatisfaction with the media is extremely high, especially in places like the U.S., South Korea and Israel (NiemanLab)
- Facebook is now emphasizing user-generated content, as opposed to news items shared on the News Feed (NYT)
- Chequeado, based in Argentina, has become one of the world leaders among fact-checking institutions, thanks to its innovation and rigorous media research (Knight Center)
