Submit your projects for the Data Journalism Awards

Hello, hacks and hackers! You have a couple more weeks to submit your projects for the Data Journalism Awards this year.

Also, the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) launched a new survey to expand on its 2017 study on the State of Technology in Global Newsrooms. The survey is available in 14 languages and more information can be found here.

The week ahead:

Worth a read:

  • PEN America released a report ahead of the 2020 elections on how disinformation is affecting political campaigns, and the danger that it may become a normalized political tactic (PEN America)
  • The Open Knowledge Foundation created an index to gauge the extent to which African public institutions release key datasets as open data online and found that not one African country hit 50 percent for openness (Open Knowledge International)
  • What do you do when your story has a correction? Bud Kennedy, a columnist for The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, tried an experiment where he published his corrections as a story and shared them like he would a story and here’s what he found (NiemanLab)
