Teaching, gathering and working remotely

Hello again, hacks and hackers! Many of our upcoming events, including some local Hacks/Hackers meetups, have been canceled. Poynter is keeping an updated list, and we have updated the events in our newsletter below.

Luckily, technology and journalism are two fields that adapt well to staying home. This is a good time to brush up on tips for remote work, remote learning and even remote conferences.

Updated events:

Worth a read:

  • A lot of workers are being asked to work from home if they can. On Twitter, The LA Times' Ben Welsh asked fellow news nerds to put together some tips (Ben Welsh)
  • Journalist, designer and professor Lisa Waananen Jones put together a few short, salient tips for teaching a class online, if you haven't done it before (Lisa Waananen Jones)
  • If you find yourself suddenly on a distributed team, Slack has a detailed guide for staying in touch and staying productive with colleagues abroad (Slack)
